Lynn Capen

On May 19, 2012 The Winhall Industrial Society and the entire community of Bondville lost our loyal friend and neighbor, Lynn Capen, A.K.A. “Cape”.

Cape was born in Bennington, Vermont, graduated from Burr & Burton Academy in Manchester and received his Bachelor Degree in Physical Education from the University of Vermont.  He worked for Bromley Mountain, then for Stratton Mountain for over thirty years as their chief snow maker.

Lynn loved farming and taking care of his cattle. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and was very involved with the Bondville Fair.  Cape began attending the Bondville Fair as a child with his parents Laurin and Ailene (Norse) Capen and his admiration for the Fair evolved into countless hours of volunteerism and dedication to make each year the best it could be.  Touted by our late President, Bob Vail as “one of the most faithful people, he has truly done it all, from pounding nails to directing traffic”.  Cape’s favorite place on the Fairgrounds for the past several years was the Track where he could be found all weekend coordinating the weighing of trucks and horses and oxen and of course announcing the pulls with his classic “Cape” voice that we will always remember.
